The Justa Center in Phoenix

The Rev. Scott Ritchey is the "CEO" of the Justa Center for homeless adults over 55 years old. He does a great job of maintaining each person's dignity by calling the people members of the "Justa Country Club" and asking about resources they need to get out of homelessness. They average getting one person per day out of homelessness.

We walked around the campus and neighborhood (called "the zone") where a total of 2,000 people congregate, even though there is really only shelter for about 550 people and we saw the different resources available to try and help them.

He told a great story about a church group that would go and throw pb&marshmallow sandwiches over the fence at the homeless until he and his group threw them back at them. He reminded us to not equate homelessness with hunger. Most of the people get meals but need a way out of their situation.
