Friday

Our last day here, and we packed a lot into today!
Here are some highlights:

We met with some artisans from around the country who are trying to market and sell their wares, especially utilizing the expertise of CRISPAZ.

We met with some amazing youth and volunteers from El Centro neighborhood, who talked about the plight of youth in inner city San Salvador these days.  The group also included a young woman named Maddy from Minnesota (center in navy with the backwards baseball cap) who is in the middle of a two-year stint volunteering here.

Lunch was at Nelly's (a traditional Salvadoran lunch)!

We then went to the Truth Memorial in Cuscatlan Park, where the lives of those killed, and those who disappeared during the war are commemorated.  Similar to the Vietnam War Memorial, there are marble slabs (4'x8') 180+ feet long filled with the names of victims of the violence here.

Then we met with a microfinance people at a bank, had our closing reflection time (including communion) and dinner out at a Mexican restaurant.

I think we were all much less frazzled today, partly because we didn't have quite the inundation with the violent aspects of the history here.  Now we are all packing like crazy!

Dear Friends,
I distinctly remembered our last evening in El Salvador, when one of our members, shared how very unique and special this moment in time was....that we would not be together again, ecxperiencing this week like it was, etc. I hope that you are able to cherish the present.
The last few entries have been packed with so many experiences, so many deeply touching our hearts and souls. I am hope that I will have the opportunity to talk with each of you, when you return.
Godspeed. (Though I am still in California, caring for my mom, I will be there in spirit, at the airport, welcoming you home).
Faithfully,
Debra Robinson

I wrote about you all in my blog tonight. Why? Because I can't wait to hear stories. I know everyone has thoughts, feelings, tales, and who knows what else coming out your ears. Please know that I and many others are here to hear you. Tell us your stories, help us understand.
At the same time don't feel obligated to reveal your heart and soul to everyone, especially in this time when it's raw with new perspective. Seek those who have been on mission to share about moments that require a simple, "Yep. I know what you mean."

God will use you as his vessel back here in Spokane. I pray that he directs you in ways to be bold FOR him and restful IN him.

Hasta Domingo!
Sarah
